The Royal Navy Recognised Sea Scouts Swimming Gala takes place at HMS RALEIGH, Torpoint, Plymouth., PL11 2PD. Click here for a map.
Teams will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. We are restricted on team places, so please apply promptly. Deadlines for the application process are shown in the table below.
Teams should endeavour to arrive by 2100 on Friday evening, and will depart by 1330 on Sunday. There will be swimming heats on Saturday morning and activities on Saturday afternoon. The swimming finals and presentations take place on Sunday morning.
The Saturday afternoon activities will be a series of indoor bases. All team managers must be able to provide and run a suitable team building exercise (including equipment). This should last 20-25 minutes and be conducted on a round robin basis.
Each team will consist of 6 swimmers:
Scouts: 3 Under 12’s, 3 Under 14’s
Explorers: 3 Under 16’s, 3 Under 18’s
In each age group, there are three events: freestyle, backstroke or breaststroke (each swum by different members of the age group). There are also freestyle and medley (not butterfly) relays in each age group. Scouts swim one length (33m) and Explorers swim 2 lengths (66m).
The age groups are based on the Sunday of the competition. Participants must be invested members of their Sea Scout Troop or Explorer Sea Scout Unit. To attend the event, young people must be at least 10 years of age from arrival. Participants may “swim up” to an older age group provided they only compete in a single age group. For example: an 11 year old Scout is permitted to compete in the U14 age class and a 13 year old Scout could compete in the U16 Explorer team.
Young people will be accommodated in mess decks with up to 30 others. There is a small risk that you will be asked to swap male and female participants if we are unable to manage the available accommodation. Adults will be accommodated in mess decks or the Senior Rates’ Mess, subject to availability. Allocations will be made in order to meet the YP supervision ratios required by both TSA and the SCC. Leaders will be required to supervise young people from their group and other groups throughout the event.
The cost for the weekend is £110.00 per team which includes youth and adult meals and accommodation. You can make payment by cheque or bank transfer.
Payments are non-refundable, unless we are unable to offer you the places you requested, in which case you will receive a full refund.

We are unable to provide transport to and from the event. It is expected that most groups will arrive by car or minibus. If you intend to arrive by public transport then you will need to arrange your own transfer to HMS RALEIGH. If this poses a problem for you, then please email firstname.lastname@example.org
HMS RALEIGH is a new entry establishment which must demand high standards of dress and behaviour. Youth and leaders require full, smart Scout uniforms: uniform shirt/jumper; tie or neckerchief; black or activity trousers; black shoes and socks; and cap. You are not permitted to wear Royal Navy style uniform such as pullovers and foul weather jackets. The Royal Navy have requested that peaked caps are not to be worn by Young People, as their similarity to RN Officer Caps may lead to mistaken identity.
Meals will be provided from Saturday breakfast to Sunday breakfast inclusive. There is an option on the forms to request a bag meal before departure on the Sunday, but there is no provision to request dinner on the Friday night.
We welcome applications from adult leaders both with members of their groups or independently.
Each group must supply a team manager for each team. We also welcome applications from additional leaders who will be able to assist in the running of the event. There is no additional cost for adult leaders.
Adults must be over 18 years of age at the start of the event and hold a current appointment with a RN Recognised Sea Scout Group or be a current member of the ALNSASU.
There may be additional security procedures to be advised by HMS RALEIGH. Leaders and contacts will be notified by email if these apply.

Deadline for Bids and Full Payments
This form only requests the number of places you wish to bid for. We do not need to know details of the individuals concerned at this stage. Do not bid speculatively: We will expect that you can fill all places which you request.
Full Payment must by made by this date.
PLACES WILL NOT BE ALLOCATED UNTIL YOUR PAYMENT IS RECEIVED, WITHOUT EXCEPTION.
If we cannot allocate you a place that you have requested, we will refund you.
If you subsequently withdraw, or do not meet the confirmation deadline, your payment will not be refunded.

Each adult attending will need to fill in an online form. We ask that each leader fills in their own form to ensure the data is correct. Feel free to forward this page to your adult leaders so they can fill the form in.
Completing your form early allows the management team to work our what resources we have, and can lead to more young people being offered their places.
