Frequently Asked Questions
Who organises RN Camps?
Our camps are run by a team of scout leaders from across the UK. With many of our members having attended RN camps as scouts ourselves.

What are the age requirements?
-
Scouts are to be a minimum of 11 years old at the start of camp and no older than 14
-
Explorers are to be under 17 years and 11 months
-
Those over 18 years old must attend as an adult

How many spaces can we book?
-
We initially limit groups to bookings of 8 however please do drop us a message at info@rnseascouts.org.uk and we will try to help where possible

Do we need to send a leader?
-
All groups are required to provide a minimum of 1 adult volunteer with their youth bookings. Ideally we ask for 1 adult to every 8 youth you book.
-
We also appreciate that leaders give up their personal holidays so you might need to change over mid week. Please let us know if this is needed. We do ask that if you do swap leaders, they attend on the same activity team and hold the same level of permits

Who do I pay?
-
Groups are invoiced for spaces booked with parents then paying the groups directly. We have pushed our payment deadline as far back as possible to give parents time to spread their payments if needed.

Do I need to be able to swim?
-
Basic swimming ability is recommended however isn't necessary. Please let us know in the personal information form if you are unable to swim.

What should I pack?
-
Once you have booked onto camp we'll send you out a welcome pack which includes everything you could possible need to know about camp. As part of this we'll give you a kit list and a handy video showing you the preferred types of kit.

Where do we sleep?
-
Scouts are mixed into their divisions and camp in the tented village which is provided. We always try to make it so that you're with a minimum of 1 other person who you know.
-
Explorers then bring their own group tents and camp in a separate area. This allows them to stay up later without disturbing those who are already asleep.

Will I be with my friends?
-
We try to pair you with someone you know for the duration of camp. You'll soon get to know the friendly faces of our support team and make amazing new friends who last a lifetime!

Camp Structure Throughout the week
-
Participants are organised into Divisions (Patrols). Each Division follows a structured rotation, meaning every young person gets to try each activity in a fair and balanced timetable.
-
Each Division is supported by a Divisional Officer, acting as their leader and first point of contact for the entire week. They will guide the group between activities, support daily preparations, and ensure that all participants feel safe, welcomed and supported.
What do we eat?
-
The Royal Navy provides all of our meals with the team planning our menu months in advance!
-
While menus cannot be published in advance, the galley team work hard to accommodate allergies and dietary requirements wherever possible.
-
Breakfast has a mixture of cooked and cold options ranging from fully cooked breakfast (ie bacon, sausage, hash browns) through to toast, cereals and granola bowls.
-
Lunch is the staple military bag meal. A sandwich/baguette patterned with crisps, fruit, biscuits, nutty (chocolate bar or sweets) and a bottle of water
